The Beginning
We, Elis and Walter, a Brazilian-Austrian couple, planned in 2001 to erect a small family hotel of international standard. As the preferred location we selected Costa Verde, the green coast between Rio and Santos that is considered by many more beautiful than the best locations in the Caribbean. Hopping from village to village and bay to bay, in November we finally arrived in Vila de Trindade. We immediately knew, this was the place.
Location
It was our intention that our hotel become the number one option in the Cairuçu region. A pristine beach location was our priority. We bought an old restaurant, the Arpoador, at the entrance of the village on Praia de Fora , the largest of the seven beaches in Trindade. Sitting right on the Atlantic Ocean - any closer and we would be in the sea - it is a privileged place, far from the confusion and noise, even during New Year's celebration and Carnival.
The Construction
Or correctly the demolition of the Arpoador, started on September 30, 2002 and terminated at the end of 2003, with the hotel already partially functioning from July 01 onward. We designed each room to have an open view of the Atlantic Ocean. That wasn't that easy to achieve, as there wasn't enough space in the front façade for even half of them. The solution for the side- and Land-facing suites was a mezzanine with an oceanside terrace.
The Name
Was missing to distinguish our house. Hotel Garni , an expression frequently used in Central Europe, signifies a small hotel with excellent services, breakfast always included, but without a restaurant.
This definition reflects exactly our idea. The Southern Cross—in Portuguese Cruzeiro do Sul – is beautiful constellation of 5 stars, an integral part of the Brazilian flag, and shines brightly in front of the hotel. The selection of the name was the easiest task.
